Arabia's Best-Kept Secret

Ancient Forts, Empty Deserts
& an Unspoiled Arabian Coast

Oman is everything that first-time visitors to the Gulf expect and rarely find elsewhere, a country of extraordinary natural beauty, genuine cultural depth, and a warmth of welcome that feels utterly authentic. Where Dubai builds upwards, Oman looks outward, across vast empty deserts, dramatic mountain ranges, and a coastline of quite remarkable unspoiled beauty along the Arabian Sea.

The country has invested thoughtfully in luxury tourism without sacrificing what makes it special. The hotels here are among the finest in the Middle East, the Chedi Muscat and Al Bustan Palace on the capital's coast, Alila Jabal Akhdar perched on the edge of a mountain plateau at 2,000 metres, and Six Senses Zighy Bay, accessible only by a vertiginous descent or a microlight flight into its hidden bay on the Musandam Peninsula. These are genuine destinations in their own right, not just places to sleep.

Oman also rewards those who venture beyond the hotels, the ancient walled city of Nizwa, the pink-hued Grand Mosque in Muscat, the dunes of the Wahiba Sands, the fjord-like inlets of the Musandam. It is a country that can be explored in a week or savoured across a fortnight, and one that almost universally surprises and delights those who visit it for the first time. It also pairs beautifully with Dubai, making it an ideal twin-centre destination.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

October to April is the ideal season, temperatures are warm and pleasant (25–30°C on the coast), the skies are reliably clear, and the sea is calm. December and January are the coolest months and particularly popular. May and September are shoulder months, warmer but still manageable. June to August is extremely hot on the coast (40°C+), though this is peak season in Salalah, which enjoys the unique khareef monsoon and becomes lush and green. For the mountains (Jabal Akhdar), temperatures are cooler year-round and the climate is more moderate.

Yes, UK passport holders require a visa to enter Oman, which can be obtained online in advance via the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal. The process is straightforward and typically takes 24–48 hours. Tourist visas are available for 10-day and 30-day stays. We'll advise on the current process and costs when you book, and remind you to apply before travel.

Dubai and Oman make an outstanding twin-centre combination, they're just an hour apart by air (or four hours by road), and the contrast between the two is part of the appeal. Dubai offers spectacle, shopping, and world-class hotels; Oman offers history, natural beauty, and authenticity. A week in each makes for a deeply satisfying Gulf itinerary, and we can arrange flights, hotels, and transfers between the two as a single connected package.

Excellent. Oman is one of the safest and most welcoming countries in the world for family travel, and children are genuinely embraced throughout the country. The resorts in Muscat, particularly Jumeirah Muscat Bay and the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, have excellent family facilities. Wadi bashing, dolphin watching, desert experiences, and snorkelling on the Daymaniyat Islands are all highly suitable for children and genuinely memorable experiences. The cultural sights, Nizwa fort, the Grand Mosque, the Muttrah Souq, are fascinating for older children and teenagers.
